Walgreens plans to close several stores across the United States, including its North Attleborough location.
The closure is set to take place at the end of September.
A Walgreens spokesperson stated that the company is repositioning its store footprint as part of a larger strategy. According to the statement, approximately 25% of Walgreens stores are not contributing to the chain’s long-term plans. This move aligns with one of the company’s strategic goals outlined in its fiscal report: “Finalizing significant multi-year footprint optimization program to close certain underperforming U.S. stores.”
The closure in North Attleborough is not an isolated incident for this area. In Boston alone, four Walgreens stores have already shut their doors.
Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth addressed the challenges facing the company in a recent press release: “We continue to face a difficult operating environment, including persistent pressures on the U.S. consumer and the impact of recent marketplace dynamics which have eroded pharmacy margins. Our results and outlook reflect these headwinds.”
For residents who currently fill their prescriptions at the North Attleborough Walgreens, it’s important to make arrangements to transfer medications to a new Walgreens location before the store’s closure. The closest Walgreens in the area is at 13 Taunton St., Plainville.
Alternatively, residents can have prescriptions filled at another pharmacy. Nearby locations include North Attleboro Pharmacy on East Washington Street, as well as CVS on East Washington Street.
As the community adapts to this change, residents are encouraged to plan ahead to ensure a smooth transition of their pharmaceutical needs.
