Metals such as brass, iron, steel, chrome and uranium are the substances that brought Attleboro to prominence as an industrial center during the 19th and 20th centuries and still play a vital role today.

Beginning with the fashioning of metal parts for rifles during the American Revolution to brass fittings for Civil War uniforms and electronic components for Apollo spacecraft, Attleboro’s industries have contributed metals vital to modern life ranging from motor controls to fuel elements for nuclear reactors.

Join the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum’s Richard Foster at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11 for a illustrated tour of Attleboro metals manufacturing history — from the creation of one of the first electric automobiles to the tools that kept Henry Ford’s Model T in repair.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments to be served. This program is presented as part of Second Saturdays at the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum

Second Saturdays feature a rotating program from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., which may include an in-depth look at an object from the collection, a talk or seminar on a moment in local or industrial history, or a reception celebrating a new exhibit. Each month brings a different topic and a new way to engage with the stories of Attleboro and the region.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Second Saturdays, with regular gallery hours from 10  a.m. to 2 p.m. and the featured program taking place in the afternoon.
