The North Attleborough Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The grant, in the amount of $41,155.45, will be used to purchase extrication and stabilization equipment. This includes battery-powered spreaders, cutters, and rams to extricate people from vehicle crashes. The grant will also be used to purchase a mechanical strut equipment kit to stabilize a vehicle following a crash.
The town will match the grant award by 10 percent, bringing the total funding to $45,271.
“With the funds awarded to our department through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant, we will be able to purchase additional equipment that will assist our members with extricating those stuck in vehicles following a car crash,” said Fire Chief Christopher Coleman in an announcement. “We are thankful to have received this grant as the new equipment will assist us greatly during our emergency response to ensure our patients get quick and effective extrication from dangerous situations.”
Assistance to Firefighters Grants are allocated to fire departments nationally to fund and aid the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. These grants help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resource.
