Sections of Plainville were closed to traffic as crews filmed scenes for the upcoming Halle Berry movie, “The Mothership.”
Crews could be seen in and around Don’s Diner on South Street, later moving to the nearby intersection of South and West Bacon streets in the afternoon. The actress could be seen throughout the day.
Opened in 1936, Don’s Diner is a family-owned restaurant, started by Donald R. Perreault. According to the business’ web site, it was formerly known as Alicia’s, and when Perreault became owner he threw away the key so it could remain open 24 hours. His son became the owner in 1971 with the help of his grandsons, Don Jr and Perry.
According to information posted to IMDB, “The Mothership” is a science fiction story that follows Sara Morse (played by Berry) one year since her husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm. When she discovers a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, Sara and her kids begin to search for him.
The film also stars Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, John Ortiz, and Jaiden Smith. Matt Charman is the writer and director. His work includes for “Bridge of Spies,” “Black Work,” and “Suite Française.”
