A vehicle crash involving a North Attleborough school bus caused road closures and delays the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 4, though no students were on board at the time, officials said.

According to Superintendent John Antonucci, the accident occurred when a vehicle pulled out from a side road and was struck by a Holmes Transportation bus. The bus driver was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, with no additional information about their condition currently available, said Antonucci.

In a message sent to families and staff, North Attleborough High School Principal Thomas Rizzo reiterated that no students were on board and said injuries to the drivers involved were reported to be minor. The crash happened at approximately 7 a.m. and involved Bus 1, which services NAHS.

“Local emergency responders were on the scene quickly and were handling the situation,” wrote Rizzo.

The crash led to the temporary closure of roads surrounding Landry and Smith streets, resulting in significant traffic delays for the morning commute. As a result, some students and staff arrived later than usual at the high school, Rizzo said, adding that late arrivals related to the incident would be excused.

Holmes Transportation has removed the involved bus from service and assigned a substitute bus and driver. District officials said they do not anticipate any impact on bus routes later in the day.

Rizzo emphasized that student and staff safety remains their top priority, noting that additional information would be shared as it becomes available.
