Patriot Subaru of North Attleboro, through the Subaru of America partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, distributed 100 new trees—all ready to be planted—to customers as well as to five neighboring towns.

“Every spring, we’ve made a donation to our local friends at the “Keep North Attleboro Beautiful” program, and we’ve loved what they’ve done to buy and plant trees around our community,” said Patriot Subaru Managing Partner Mark Perryman. “It was a natural fit for us to take it up a notch and work with the Arbor Day Foundation, and make a larger geographical impact.”

Earlier this year, Patriot invested a little over $5,000 to purchase a large quantity of trees through the ADF program. There were five different species all native to New England — eastern redbud, Shadblow serviceberry, red maple, river birch and northern red oak. Subaru then sent an invitation to customers announcing the opportunity to receive one tree by registering.

At the same time, a plan was made with Neil Rhein, executive director for the nonprofit “Keep Massachusetts Beautiful” organization. Rhein coordinated the opportunity for five area towns—North Attleborough, Attleboro, Mansfield, Walpole and Wrentham—to participate in the distribution.

On April 16, customers who had pre-registered for a tree started coming into the store to pick up their tree, and shared their stories of where they were going to plant, why they picked the species, and other anecdotal tree stories.

“We’re grateful to Patriot Subaru of North Attleboro for this opportunity to beautify our local chapter communities by donating these trees, which will be planted in public spaces,” said Rhein. “These trees will not only be beautiful to look at, but they will also provide much-needed shade and absorb carbon emissions, both of which can help reduce the impact of our warming climate.”

Through the national program, Subaru and retailers plant 100,000 trees that are all regionally appropriate. Trees provide oxygen, cool communities, filter the water and the air, and make our towns, parks, schools, and open spaces more vibrant and colorful.
