North Attleborough officials have made several closures and cancelations ahead of Thursday’s expected storm.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for North Attleborough and surrounding areas from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6. Mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow and sleet accumulations ranging between 1” and 4”.
The forecasted mixture of snow and sleet is likely to impact the morning and afternoon commutes. Like snow accumulation, ice can cause significant damage and pose serious dangers to both motorists and pedestrians. Town officials are closely monitoring the situation, especially the potential for ice formation following the transition from snow to freezing rain in the late afternoon and early evening.
Out of an abundance of caution, all town offices, including the Senior Center, Animal Shelter and Richards Memorial Library, will close at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, due to the increased possibility of icy weather conditions.
The following events scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, have also been canceled:
- Charter Review Committee Public Meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the JoAnn Cathcart Conference Room.
- Planning Board Public Meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Department of Public Works Building.
- Chess Club scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Richards Memorial Library.
- All Senior Center classes, lunch, and bingo activities scheduled throughout the day.
- All afternoon and evening Parks and Recreation programs and activities.
Bristol Elder Services has also canceled both the Congregate Meals and Meals on Wheels for Feb. 6.
The North Attleborough Public Schools will have an early release day for Thursday, Feb. 6. There is no delay or cancelation to trash and recycling pick-up at this time.
