For all aspiring poets—this is your big chance.
The Cultural Council is now accepting applicants for the town’s first Poet Laureate.
The person chosen for this will serve a two-year honorary term “focused on promoting poetry and writing in the community,” an announcement from the town Tuesday read.
The Poet Laureate responsibilities will include hosting workshops and events related to poetry and writing, composing poems for special occasions, and nurturing emerging poets and writers.
“The Poet Laureate’s goal will be to enhance the literary arts, enrich the community, and recognize the literary accomplishments of its residents,” the announcement read.
Interested individuals can complete the Poet Laureate Application available on the town’s website. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and reside in North Attleborough. Candidates will need to submit two writing samples to be considered. All applications must be submitted by March 1 at 5 p.m.
The selected individual will be announced in April, coinciding with National Poetry Month.
