North Attleborough Fire and Police Departments responded to Town Hall on Monday afternoon to secure an unidentified military ordinance, according to Fire Chief Christopher Coleman.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., fire and police responded to Town Hall to secure what appeared to be an unidentified military ordinance that a resident had surrendered to the Veterans’ Services Office.
Out of an abundance of caution, Town Hall was evacuated due to the unidentified military ordinance’s unknown nature. Superintendent John Antonucci evacuated the Community School, 45 S Washington St., as well, at his discretion due to its proximity to Town Hall.
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad also responded to the scene and determined that the unidentified military ordinance was not live and not a threat to the public. The device was safely removed from Town Hall and will be disposed of by the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.
First responders cleared the scene at 1:36 p.m. No one was injured, and there is no threat to public safety.
Through subsequent investigation, it was determined that the resident had no malicious intent and was unsure of how to properly surrender the unidentified military ordinance.
Coleman advises community members that if they find unidentified military ordinances in their house, business, or community, they should leave them in place, not touch the device, and immediately call 9-1-1 for further assistance.
