Summer may not be the same amidst the ongoing pandemic, but two familiar sights will be open by early July.
The Hockomock YMCA outdoor pool opened on June 20 for family swimming. According to the YMCA’s web site, family swim sessions [no lap swim at this time] will be held on weekends with a limit of 90 minutes per family, and a maximum of six people per family. Pre-registration is required to maintain safety.
Those using the pool are advised to arrive wearing a bathing suit as changing rooms are not available. Restrooms are available and showers can be used only before pool use. An active Hockomock Area YMCA Membership is required to participate.
At the June 22 Town Council meeting, it was announced that the town’s WWII Memorial Pool would be open on July 1. In addition, athletic fields and courts are available for sports practice, though no games can be held at this time.
Park and Recreation Director Steve Carvalho said that the regulations from the state have been changing often, so guidelines may be updated as time passes. At this time, capacity will be limited to 40 percent of what is normally allowed. Staff will be wiping and spraying down all surfaces and checking their temperatures before reporting to work. Additional personnel has been hired to handle the expanded cleaning duties.
“It’s going to be a great summer,” he said. “We will do everything we can to keep people safe.”
The pool hours will be different this summer, and will be from 2-7 p.m., seven days a week. Carvalho recommends that people visit the town web site, which has posted updates as to new COVID-19 cases and regulations for town offices, fields, etc.
“We’re going to make sure we continue in North Attleborough to keep people safe and healthy as we continue to open up more and more,” said Carvalho.
