Scott Langlands will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and appointed as the new commander of the 3-124 Information Operations Battalion, part of the 124th Regimental Training Institute, Vermont Army National Guard. The promotion ceremony and change of command took place on June 6 at Norwich University in Vermont.
The 3-124 Information Operations Battalion teaches leaders in the Army Reserves and National Guard how to leverage information and information systems, like computer networks, to achieve a military advantage. Information Operations integrates multiple disciplines like cyberspace operations, military deception, strategic communications, and intelligence to influence adversary decision making.
Lt. Col. Langlands resides in North Attleborough and has served in the National Guard for 25 years. He deployed in 2005 with a tank company to Iraq and in 2020 with an infantry company to Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Lt. Col. Langlands is a graduate of the Army Mountain Warfare School, the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course and holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Connecticut. He recently completed a Master of Science degree in Emergency Management from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
