Paul Corriveau, a parishioner from Transfiguration of the Lord Parish in North Attleborough, described receiving the Marian Award as both humbling and deeply meaningful.
The award, presented by Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., on Dec. 1 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in Fall River, celebrates dedicated service to the church.
For Corriveau, the recognition carried special significance, as both his mother and grandfather were past recipients of the honor, creating a powerful generational connection.
According to a press release, the Marian Award continues the tradition of the Marian Medal, which has celebrated parishioners’ service since 1968.
“This award isn’t just recognition; it’s a reminder of the importance of service in our faith and community,” Corriveau shared.
Sixty-four honorees were recognized during a ceremony that included evening prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The event was live-streamed on the St. Mary Cathedral website at olfallriver.org.
Corriveau reflected on his family’s legacy of service and emphasized the importance of giving back, both within the church and the larger community.
“You receive far more from being involved than what your service provides,” he said, encouraging others to embrace opportunities to contribute. “Seeing my daughter and grandchildren carry on this work fills me with pride. It’s not just about helping others—it’s about teaching the next generation the value of giving back.”
In his parish, Corriveau has been an active member of the school’s Advisory Committee and has supported initiatives like his family’s Christmas gift distribution efforts. This annual tradition, which involves his daughter and grandchildren, exemplifies his commitment to fostering a spirit of service and inspiring future generations to continue the work of helping others.
“Service is a way of expressing gratitude for the blessings in our lives,” Corriveau continued, commenting on his own service, “It’s barely begun, and I hope to continue contributing to the growth of our parish.”
The Marian Award recognizes parishioners nominated by their pastors for their exceptional contributions. Bishop da Cunha’s presentation of the awards highlighted the profound impact of individuals such as Corriveau on their communities.
