The town is seeking proposals for the purchase and redevelopment of the former Allen Avenue Elementary School property at 290 Allen Ave.
The approximately 16.6-acre property presents an opportunity for redevelopment in a well-established area near Route 1, Interstate 295, retail, restaurants and other amenities. The site includes the approximately 14,813-square-foot former school building and is served by municipal water and sewer.
The town is seeking experienced development teams with creative, feasible proposals that will provide long-term value to the community. These may include adaptive reuse of the existing building or complete redevelopment of the site, including demolition of the former school.
The town is interested in proposals for an adult retirement community serving residents ages 55 and older. Such a development could help address the community’s need for additional senior housing while expanding the range of housing options available. Other residential, commercial and redevelopment concepts permitted under applicable zoning will also be considered. The property is located within the Route 1 South Multi-Use Overlay District, which provides flexibility for a variety of potential uses.
No developer or redevelopment proposal has been selected. The competitive Request for Proposals process provides qualified development teams with an opportunity to bring forward concepts for the Town’s consideration. Proposals are due electronically through OpenGov Procurement by 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.
