Dawn Greening, of the Cyril K. Brennan Middle School, was named by the Attleboro Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as Outstanding Teacher of American History for the 2023-2024 school year.
This award is given annually to a local grade 6-12 teacher of American history who fosters a spirit of patriotism, has an incisive knowledge of American history, and shares it readily with others while securing America’s future through better education and understanding. Greening has consistently exhibited these qualities throughout her 30 years of teaching in the Attleboro School System.
As a life-long learner, Greening has continually updated her knowledge and skills by earning a master’s and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) as well as completing various training programs, such as Sheltered English Immersion and the Positive Intervention System, to ensure successful learning experiences for her students.
Greening believes “each child is unique and special and can bring to the classroom a wide variety of experiences”. She provides a safe and positive space in which her students can explore, engage, challenge, share experiences, and develop a hunger for learning in an environment which enables each child to reach his/her full potential.
Greening is known by others as an exceptional, dedicated and innovative teacher. She is viewed as a leader not only within her school, but also the district. Her knowledge of American history is unparalleled and the impact she makes on students not only prepares them for high school, but prepares them to be successful and contributing community members.
