Joseph W. Martin, Jr. Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization, known as the Martin School Association (MSA), is raising funds for a fully-accessible play structure to be installed at Martin School. An ADA fully-accessible play structure would expand playground opportunities for children with physical needs beyond the school’s specialized swing and a quiet area to read in.
“It is important we have a playground for all children – those with and without disabilities – to play, to be a kid and to give them a chance to play with other kids,” stated Betty Siu, member of the MSA’s Playground Committee. “Children are all different but no one should be left out due to a lack of an inclusive playground.”
To help make an inclusive playground a reality, Peak Pediatric Care of North Attleborough and Little Rhody Foods donated two Red Sox tickets in Field box 19, Row A to be raffled off. The game is at Fenway Park on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:10 pm. Entries are $1 each; no limit on the number of tickets one can purchase. The Red Sox will be playing the Blue Jays. The winner of the raffle will be drawn and announced on Friday, April 28.
Earlier in the school year, Apple Tree Brewery also helped out by hosting a fundraising event to help with the purchase of the new structure. Elliot Physical Therapy and Paul Davis have also contributed to the cause.
“We are so fortunate to have so many North Attleborough businesses and community members interested in this play structure,” shared Dr. Jennifer Evans, Principal of Martin School. “A fully accessible play structure would help to spread joy and connection between children with and without wheelchairs at Martin and in the greater North Attleborough community for years to come.”
