Students of North Attleborough Middle School were sent home early after a message threatening a school shooting was discovered on school property, according to school officials.

The message, found on Nov. 1, was discovered by a school staff member just after 7 a.m. The message was located on a bathroom wall and the individual notified the school and district administration, according to a press release issued this morning.

In an email sent to parents and school employees, North Attleborough Superintendent Dr. John Antonucci wrote that the North Attleborough Police Department is conducting an investigation into the matter and out of an abundance of caution, middle school classes and extracurricular activities would be canceled for the remainder of the day.

“We thank the North Attleborough Police for their continued cooperation and support in making our schools as safe as possible,” Antonucci wrote.  “If any parent or guardian has any questions or concerns, they are encouraged to contact district administration or their child’s building principal.”

Students were not sent to school when the message was found. Those on buses were rerouted back to bus stops. As the threat only pertained to the middle school, the North Attleborough High School and the remaining schools in the district will hold classes and activities with no cancellations.

Police officials say there will not be any comment until the investigation is completed.
