The town announces a new fall yard waste collection program, with Department of Public Works (DPW) crews providing curbside collection on designated dates this November and December.
Under the new program, DPW crews will collect yard waste town-wide on designated Fridays, replacing the previous process in which yard waste was collected by Waste Management on residents’ regular trash and recycling days.
Residents should place their yard waste curbside by 7 a.m. on the following collection dates:
- Friday, Nov. 6
- Friday, Nov. 13
- Friday, Nov. 20
- Friday, Dec. 4
Collection will begin on each designated Friday and may continue through Saturday or Sunday as needed. Once a street has been serviced, crews will not return for additional materials placed curbside later.
Residents may place out a maximum of 14 bags or bundles per collection day.
Leaves and grass must be placed in biodegradable yard waste bags or brown paper bags. Plastic bags and loose material placed in barrels will not be accepted.
Brush and branches must be no more than six inches in diameter and less than four feet long and must be bundled and tied. Sticks should not be placed inside yard waste bags. Individual bags and bundles may not weigh more than 50 pounds.
The following materials will not be accepted as part of the program: plastic bags, loose material in barrels, limbs, trees, stumps, dirt, sand, rocks, asphalt, bricks, concrete or yard ornaments.
Residents are encouraged to mark the collection dates on their calendars and make sure materials are properly prepared before placing them curbside.
