Thursday, Jan. 29

Snowman and gnome scavenger hunt—Find all of the hidden snowmen and gnomes on the first floor of the library and receive a small prize. This takes place all day in the first floor of the library. 

Story Time, Ages 0-7—Come to the downstairs meeting room for stories, songs and a simple craft. This event takes place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  

Free tech help—Volunteer Ben Elliott, a computer support specialist, is hosting free IT hours at the library from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you need one-on-one help with a laptop, smartphone, or general tech stuff, please schedule an appointment by registering at https://befreeit.org/ or ask library staff for help.

Elliot also offers free tech help at Wrentham’s Fiske Public Library on Tuesdays, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Plainville Public Library on Fridays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

STEAM Cart—STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. There will be a different activity out each day. STEAM cart days are for children ages 3+ with an adult. Activities take place in the Children’s Room, are free play and not librarian led. This event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Guys Book Group—Check out the newest group at the library: a book group for guys! The group will read both fiction and non-fiction and will meet on a quarterly basis. The first read is “The Last Murder at the End of the World,” by Stuart Turton. 

Copies of the book will be available on the bookshelf near the reference desk. Anyone who identifies as male is welcome to attend. This group will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room. No registration is required. 

Cookie Decorating 101 with Frosted Bake Shoppe—Teens ages 11+ are invited to a fun, hands-on cookie decorating class. Participants will learn basic decorating techniques, practice with guidance, and create a trio of beautifully decorated cookies to take home. All supplies are included – just bring creativity and a sweet tooth. This will be held in the meeting room at 2 p.m. and will be led by Frosted Bake Shoppe in North Attleborough. Registration is required. 

Monday, Feb. 2

Super Bowl voting—Visit the children’s room to vote on who you want to win the Super Bowl, and for your favorite food. Children will receive a small prize. Make sure to check the library’s leaderboard in the room for ongoing results.

Story Time—Come to the downstairs meeting room for stories, songs and a simple craft. This event takes place from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  

Pajama Story Time—Dress in your pajamas for a special evening story time. Hear stories, sing songs, and do a craft. Blankets and stuffed animals are welcome. This program is best for children ages 3-7. This event will take place at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 3

Super Bowl voting—Visit the children’s room to vote on who you want to win the Super Bowl, and for your favorite food. Children will receive a small prize. Make sure to check the library’s leaderboard in the room for ongoing results.

Chess and Checkers Club—The Chess and Checkers Club for ages 6+, teens and families with an understanding of the game. Chess will not be taught and volunteers will be on-hand to assist. Email Meredith at momalley@sailsinc.org with any questions. It is the library’s policy that an adult ages 15 years and older remain with children ages 10 and under a the library. No registration requires.

Youth Advisory Council—The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at the Richards Memorial Library is made up of teens between the ages of 13 and 17 who love to read and share opinions and who would like to be more involved in the library. YAC teens help shape the Young Adult book collection and space, discussing and helping choose books to add to the collection, brainstorming and helping plan programs, putting up displays, etc. The meeting will be in the Meeting Room at 6:30 p.m.

Community Fiber Arts Circle—Come crochet, knit, embroider and weave with fellow fiber crafter. Beginners welcome. There will be no direct teaching of fiber arts, but community guidance and sharing of ideas are greatly encouraged. Work on a project, make new friends, and bounce ideas off of each other. 

Open to all ages and experience levels (recommended for ages 12- Adult). Please call the library (508)-699-0122 for more information. This event will be held in the meeting room at 3:30 p.m.
