LETTER TO THE EDITOR—Making a smart investment in the community

As a proud member of the NAHS Class of ’96, I can tell you that our high school and supporting the youth who pass through it was a source of pride in our community.  North Attleborough residents are proud of who we are, where we live and the opportunities growing up in this community provide for its kids.

The reality is that the current high school was designed in an era that couldn’t begin to consider what 2030 and beyond would present in terms of compliance requirements or technological advancement. Its current condition, and its ability to meet the needs of future students that will be proud NAHS alums is no longer feasible. Preparing our students for the opportunities of 2030 and into the future will require meeting the technological and compliant space requirements that a new building provides.

I appreciate that building a new high school represents a significant investment for the community. This investment comes with a substantial contribution of state dollars we have paid into via sales tax, which will be allocated to another community if we choose not to take advantage at this time.

It is time to make smart investments in the community and invest in each other. The high school could be further utilized by the community with a new building. Spending any more money on the poorly designed current high school would be reckless and not in line with our smart conservative values. Let’s make a smart investment in our kids, our community, and our home.

Please join me and vote Yes on June 3.
