Fire Chief Christopher Coleman announced that the NAFD has received two grants to improve its fire services.

The department received $4,728.12 as part of the second round of the fiscal year 2025 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program. The department also received a $7,190.83 Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) program grant and a $2,596.85 Senior SAFE program grant.

NAFD will purchase additional SEEK thermal imaging cameras using funds from the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program. The department was previously awarded a $12,946.44 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant in January to purchase an initial round of thermal imaging cameras.

These cameras allow firefighters to see through smoke, identify heat sources, and locate individuals, enabling them to have increased situational awareness while operating in immediately dangerous conditions.

The SAFE and Senior SAFE Grants are awarded to the department annually. The Fire Prevention Division uses these funds to host public education and safety training events.

“The Department of Fire Services’s continued assistance enables our department to enhance our equipment and educational programs, ensuring that we meet the needs of our community to the highest standards,” Coleman said. “We are thankful for these grant opportunities and the awards they provide, which allow us to achieve these goals.”
