Why are you running for this position?

I am running for the North Attleborough School Committee because I believe in the power of education to shape bright futures for all our students and to strengthen our community. As a lifelong educator and advocate for student success, I have dedicated my career to training future teachers, reforming curricula to meet the evolving needs of learners, and prioritizing resources with limited funds.

With firsthand experience in both classroom instruction and educational leadership, I understand the challenges our schools face and the support our teachers, students, and families need to thrive.

If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?

I would like to focus on four different areas within the school committee’s purview. First, I would like to support policies that provide tools and support for inclusive classroom practices for children with special needs. Second, I would to focus on bolstering policy to improve students’ critical literacy skills. Third, I would like to further improve collaboration with the community. I am committed to listening to community members to better understand the educational needs of their children and ensuring that our budget reflects those priorities. I will engage with parents, educators, and local leaders to create a collaborative, student-centered approach to decision-making. Lastly, I will work to empower educators to thrive in the classroom so that we can attract and maintain strong educators in our community.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

I prefer to focus on building connections and finding common ground rather than highlighting our differences. As a department chair and educator, I have spent my career fostering collaboration, building consensus, and ensuring that all voices are heard. I believe that our shared commitment to providing the best education for our children is far more important than any differences we may have. My goal is to work as a team with fellow committee members, educators, and the community to find solutions that serve all students and families in North Attleborough.

What are some areas that the town has improved upon and what, in your opinion, remains to be done?

Electronic communication between the district and families has dramatically improved over the past five years. As I have stated, I believe communication with families and community members is key. This improvement has led to greater participation in district-wide activities. I do believe there are areas for improvement within the district and I look forward to working with school committee members, the superintendent and community to identify the most pressing issues and work towards shared goals.

Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?

My background as a department chair has given me extensive experience working collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators and various stakeholders to make informed decisions that benefit students and the school community. I understand the importance of active listening, respectful debate and consensus-building to achieve common goals. Additionally, my leadership role requires me to navigate different perspectives and find solutions that serve the best interests of all involved. These skills would translate well to serving on the School Committee, where teamwork and collaboration are essential for effective governance.
