North Attleborough pantry continues to serve

Lenore’s Food Pantry, overseen by Human Services Coordinator Stephen Berdos, continues to provide support to residents in need, which becomes even more important during the holiday season.

“We serve about 200 people a month,” Berdos said, highlighting the consistent demand for the pantry’s services.

“Yesterday we served 16 people,” Berdos noted, adding that this number was on the higher end for a single day.

The pantry relies on community support to sustain its efforts. Residents can donate food and other items at Town Hall or volunteer their time to assist with pantry operations.

While the pantry focuses primarily on food, donations of clothing are forwarded to other organizations, and toys are redirected to programs like Christmas for Kids or Toys for Tots. In addition to operating the pantry, the program alternates food deliveries to two local elderly residential facilities.

After being dropped off, donations are sorted and labeled by volunteers before being placed in the pantry for easy browsing by residents. Berdos emphasized the broader role his position plays in supporting North Attleborough residents.

“Part of my job is to loop in other departments…if someone is homeless I can help with housing applications, if someone is struggling I can connect them with mental health services,” he said. “I enjoy driving to work every day because it makes a difference.”

Berdos went on to express gratitude for the volunteers who make the pantry’s operation possible, mentioning Lisa Polluck, the volunteer coordinator, and her diligent oversight.

“The pantry would not be possible without the volunteers,” he said.

As the holidays approach, Berdos encouraged residents to remember the need for donations year-round.

“Everybody’s budgets are tighter around the holidays…but the reality is people struggle with food insecurity all year.”

To volunteer or donate, contact Berdos at North Attleborough Town Hall at 508-699-0100, Ext. 2515.
