Seniors encouraged to sign up for Bucket Brigade program

Fire Chief Christopher Coleman announces that the North Attleborough Fire Department’s Public Education Team is once again delivering buckets of salt to senior residents this winter as part of the Bucket Brigade program.

As part of the Bucket Brigade, the Fire Department will deliver five-gallon buckets with a mix of sand and rock salt to eligible residents to use on walkways and driveways throughout the winter. The department will refill the salt buckets as needed throughout the winter. However, firefighters will not spread the salt buckets. Residents must spread the buckets themselves or have someone else do it if they cannot.

This program is available to any resident 60 years old or older who lives in a private residence. Please note that senior residents living in an assisted living facility, apartment complex, or condo complex aren’t eligible to participate in this program.

To sign up for the program, visit https://tinyurl.com/367tfnvp. Space is limited, so only the first 150 residents who sign up will be eligible to participate in the program.

Buckets will be delivered beginning Sunday, Dec. 8. Residents do not need to be home when their bucket is delivered. NAFD will email residents to notify them when their buckets will be picked up in April. Residents should note that they cannot keep the buckets past the end of the program.

The Bucket Brigade is funded through a Department of Fire Services’ Senior SAFE grant and the Department of Public Works will provide the sand/salt mix.
