Town Manager Michael Borg and Superintendent John Antonucci have announced that Dr. Cheryl Butts has been hired as North Attleborough’s new human resources director.
In her new role, Butts oversees human resources functions for the town and school departments, providing services to over 285 town and 645 school full- and part-time employees. She was confirmed by the Town Council on May 13 and replaced long-time director Cathy Calicchia, who retired in early July.
Butts has over 25 years of experience working in the human resources field in both the private and public sectors. She most recently worked in an educational setting, having served as the executive director of human resources for Taunton Public Schools since 2014.
Butts has extensive experience in recruitment, compensation, employee relations, diversity, inclusion, and professional development. Most recently, she’s developed diversity strategies for hiring and developing diverse talent, fostering an inclusive work environment, and ensuring management accountability.
“Our human resources director is a unique position within the Commonwealth as they oversee both the town and school departments, whereas a lot of other municipalities and schools have two separate directors,” Borg said. “As such, we were looking for a candidate who had unique qualifications with both municipal and school experience, which we found in Dr. Butts. She’s an accomplished human resource professional with extensive recruitment and retention experience focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We believe that her knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm make her the perfect fit for this role and will assist us in recruiting highly qualified candidates for our town and schools.”
Added Antonucci, “Dr. Butts is a renowned human resource professional with an extensive background in K-12 school districts. Her background, experience and enthusiasm made this hire a straightforward decision for us. We are thrilled that we found her, and that she decided to join our team here in North Attleborough.”
