Something ‘bazaar’ is coming to North Attleborough

This summer, the south parking lot of Emerald Square Mall will be home to a massive collection of different vendors.

The North Attleborough Bazaar Market, organized by Daniel and Maggie Cortez, will set up in the Emerald Square lot beginning with a grand opening on June 1. From there, the market will be open on the first and third Saturday of most months between June and December, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Cortezes, who own and operate Rhode Island Estate Sales, decided to organize this event after hearing from their customers how much they enjoy fairs and festivals.

“It’s kind of a mix of a craft fair, flea market and farmers market,” Daniel said. “All kinds of vendors. We also have food trucks, Del’s Lemonade, 8-10 food trucks, and we’re going to have some live music, either a DJ or a band.”

The band Tequila Jim will be performing for the grand opening, and Can Jam will perform on June 15, according to the bazaar’s Instagram page.

Daniel said that he and his wife have gone to all sorts of craft fairs and flea markets in the area, including the Brimfield Antique Show, Woonsocket’s Autumnfest, the Seekonk Flea Market, Plainfield Pike Flea Market and others. He said that experience helped them when it came to designing North Attleborough’s Bazaar.

“It’s been in our heads for four or five years,” he said. “With the new mall management, we could get this going.”

Daniel estimates that the mall’s south parking lot will have room for up to 150 vendors, with customers using the other mall lots. There will be a police detail, and Daniel said the event will be held rain or shine, except in the event of extreme weather, in which case updates will be communicated through the bazaar’s Facebook page.

When asked about the kinds of vendors, Daniel said they’d run the gamut, and they’ve been recruiting some from local flea markets. Vendors will be from all over New England, and some have signed up for the North Attleborough event for a full year.

“We love antiques and collectible toys, people love them,” he said.

Daniel said that while he and his wife have been organizing estate sales for some time, an event like this is on a completely different scale, but he’s confident it will be a success. He said being patient has been important, and they haven’t seen too many challenges.

The location for the Bazaar is 999 S. Washington St. This is the large south parking lot of the Emerald Square Mall. The grand opening will be on June 1. There will be a $1 entrance fee for anyone 13 and older. For the grand opening, that fee will be waived.
