An accident near the intersection of S. Washington Street and Calvin Road has resulted in a fatality.
According to North Attleborough Police Capt. Joseph DiRenzo, Lexus Thomas of Woonsocket, R.I., died as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash, which was reported on Sunday, May 10, at 8:04 p.m. The driver, Antonio Whitefield of North Attleborough, has not been charged at this time. The accident is under investigation by North Attleborough and the Mass State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
How it happened is still under investigation,” said DiRenzo, adding that the vehicle’s speed and whether Whitefield was under the influence at the time of the accident will be part of the investigation.
According to Fire Chief Christopher Coleman, the vehicle had struck a telephone pole, leaving Thomas trapped and unresponsive. Whitefield was outside the vehicle and on the side of the road when first responders arrived. Thomas was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“We had to use the extrication tools to get them out of the vehicle,” said Coleman, adding that it took 15 minutes to complete.
