Town Election will take place June 30

Those currently serving on North Attleborough boards and committees will continue to do so as part of a decision to postpone the Town Election until June 30.

The Town Council voted to a approve this date change at its meeting on Monday, April 13. Town Manager Michael Borg said that this decision followed guidance from Gov. Charlie Baker which allowed for such a postponement. The election was originally scheduled for April 7 and has several positions on the ballot, including the School Committee, Board of Public Works, Park Commission, and NAED Board of Electric Commissioners.

Borg said that holding the election in June will allow time to recruit poll workers and make arrangements as needed.

Pat Dolan of the Election Commission said that early voting by mail will be permitted for this election, should people be concerned about going to the polls. An application for voting by mail will be made available on the town web site. Dolan said this is similar to absentee voting with the key difference being that residents do not need to give a reason for early voting. Absentee voting does require a reason, such as illness, or being unable to get to the polls due to a handicap.

We expect a lot of people will do this,” said Dolan. “Their vote will count, same as everybody else’s.”
