Town Council aims to clarify food truck operations

The Town Council voted 5-0 at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, to recommend a new plan to the Bylaw Subcommittee, aimed at defining where and when mobile vendors can operate within the town.

The proposed guidelines will include designated zones where they are prohibited from operating. These new rules are intended to remove any ambiguity surrounding mobile food operations, which has been a point of concern for both vendors and local businesses.

Town Manager Michael Borg explained that while the town already has safety regulations in place for mobile vendors, there were no clear guidelines regarding where they can and cannot operate. The proposed plan seeks to fill that gap, providing both structure and clarity.

“This is about protecting our local businesses and ensuring mobile vendors understand the boundaries,” Borg said.

Town Council Vice President John Simmons echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of simplicity in the new bylaws.

“We want it to remain easy for vendors to come to North Attleborough,” Simmons said. “Clear, straightforward guidelines are important.”

The plan will now be under review by the subcommittee, which will fine-tune the proposal before any further action is taken.
