Scott Smith appointed as veterans agent for North Attleborough, Plainville, Wrentham

With a 30-year career in the Armed Forces, Scott Smith has been chosen as the new veterans agent for three communities.

Smith was confirmed by the North Attleborough Town Council on Monday, Aug. 12, and began his new role on Aug. 13. In this role, he will oversee veterans’ services for the towns of North Attleborough, Plainville and Wrentham.

Stephen Travers served in this role from April 2022 through January 2024, after which Melissa Bingham was chosen for the position in March.

Smith served in the Marine Corps for 30 years before retiring from active duty in 2013 as a sergeant major. During his enlistment, he held numerous leadership and instructor positions while assigned to the support and operating forces, according to an announcement of his appointment to the tri-town role.

In the Marine Forces Pacific, Smith managed 800 personnel within 20 subordinate units, dispersed among 15 different geographical locations across the Pacific region and monitored the enlisted performance evaluation system.

Following his time in the Marine Forces Pacific, Smith joined the Joint Task Force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He also served in Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, Guam, Wake Island, Mongolia, Iraq, Afghanistan and more.

Upon his retirement, Smith most recently served as the Marine Instructor for the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (MCJROTC) at Tolman High School, Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Hawai’i Pacific University and is a graduate of the Keystone Leadership Course from the National Defense University.
