Grand marshal nominations being accepted for annual Santa Parade

Downtown Associates of North Attleborough (DANA) will host the 68th annual Santa Parade, sponsored by Bristol County Savings Bank, on Sunday, Nov. 26.

Grand marshal nominations are now being accepted. Nominations should be a person or group who has strong ties to the community and/or may be an unsung hero whose story should be told. The grand marshal will lead the parade and help give out the float awards. Previous grand marshals include Chris Cornetta and family, the Johnson family, JoAnn Cathcart and family, Kristine and Larry Crosman, Charlie Legg, and family members of Edward G. Lambert, a longtime chair of the parade.  Nominations, with explanation no longer than 500 words, may be sent to downtownassociates@gmail.com or by mail your nomination to DANA, PO Box 407, North Attleboro, MA  02761. Nomination deadline is Nov. 15.

This year there will be three Spirit of Christmas float awards. The winners will be selected by an impartial panel of judges comprised of town notables and parade sponsors. Prizes awarded will be $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Judging will take place at the end of the parade route from a viewing stand in front of Veterans Park. An entry form is required to be eligible for judging. Float and marcher applications are available by emailing the DANA Office at downtownassociates@gmail.com or by calling 508-269-2464. All applications are due no later than Nov. 15.

The parade will kick off at 3 p.m. from the Baptist Common, travel through the center of town and end at Veterans Park in front of Town Hall. There will be no parade viewing beyond Veterans’ Park.  Following the parade, there will be holiday music at the gazebo in Veterans Park and Santa will light the town Christmas tree. Winners of the float competition will also be announced at that time.

Families will enjoy a festive holiday experience while strolling down North Washington Street enjoying the holiday decorations throughout the downtown area.
