A 37-year-old man was arrested in North Attleborough and charged with murder in connection to the stabbing deaths of two men, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Leonid Volkin of Medfield was arrested without incident on April 15 by the Medford Police Department and members of the DA’s Massachusetts State Police Unit. He remains in custody and will be arraigned on the charges in the Somerville District Court on April 18.
In a press conference on April 17, District Attorney Marian Ryan said investigators found the bodies of the victims, 37-year-old Kiryl Schukin and 28-year-old Pavel Vekshin. Both were inside a storage unit on North Beacon Street in Brighton. After conducting an executed search warrant on April 14, investigators found the bodies in rubber storage bins. The body of a man, tentatively identified as Schulkin, had been dismembered. Bleach, rubber gloves, and items belonging to the deceased were also located.
An investigation indicated both men succumbed to stab wounds. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death for both men was homicide.
According to investigators, Schukin was a guarantor on a lease for an apartment of Volkov in Medford. However, Schukin had recently declined to be the guarantor on the lease extension resulting in Volkov’s eviction. It is believed that Volkov and Schukin met in a rented U-Haul truck, which Volkov was driving on March 29.
Additionally, investigators also learned that a person believed to be Volkov was seen on video entering and leaving the victims’ building in the days following the last time Vekshin and Schukin were seen. Police then located that U-Haul at the storage facility where the bodies were found. Investigators believe the defendant was using it to transport items from the victims’ Locust Street apartment to the storage facility.
