The North Attleborough Fire Department has a new graduate joining its ranks, and it’s the son of one of their own.
Cameren Cornetta, the son of Christopher J. Cornetta, graduated from the Brockton Fire Department’s Training Academy. Cornetta, a probationary firefighter and EMT, spent 13 weeks at the academy learning basic firefighter skills. These skills include search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation, fire attack and life safety lessons, non-fire responses and hazardous material response. He now serves in Platoon D at the fire department.
North Attleborough Fire Chief Christopher Coleman expressed pride in Cornetta’s graduation and how he followed his father in becoming a firefighter.
“We are all extremely proud of Cameren for graduating from the academy and returning to our department with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to serve the North Attleboro community,” Coleman said. “We are pleased to see him follow in his father’s footsteps and we look forward to watching him grow in his career.”
Christopher J. Cornetta, a North Attleborough native and firefighter, died in 2019 after suffering a massive heart attack while shoveling snow. He served the fire department for 29 years in Platoon A. Cornetta was also well-known in the community for his work as a youth football coach for the North Attleborough junior football team.
Following his death, Cornetta’s family established the Christopher J. Cornetta foundation. The foundation’s mission is to raise money for local charities and organizations in North Attleborough to honor the life and legacy of Cornetta. One of their most famous events are the annual cornhole tournaments.
