On Monday, Feb. 8, the organizers of the Community Hero Award recognized its first recipient, Sarah Stone.
Stone was nominated by Joan Gonsalves, a member of the community who recognized her hard work launching the Community Comets Food Pantry, now known at Our Open Umbrella. Stone recognized the need in the community for this kind of outreach and has done her due diligence to see those needs filled. When COVID-19 struck, she has met the challenge with her team of volunteers, delivering meals to families this past year so as to help mitigate exposure. Her aspirations are to help feed and clothe those children in our community with dignity and respect, so they can feel proud, confident and equal to their peers.
