Hockomock YMCA receives award from Kylecares Foundation

The Hockomock Area YMCA announced that it has been awarded a $2,300 grant from the KyleCares Foundation. In partnership with the KylesCares Foundation, 50 Y teen center, camp and programming staff will participate in a three-hour training session about warning signs, communication tips, action steps, and resources related to teen suicide prevention.

In honor of their son and brother, Kyle, and to propel his legacy of caring for others, Jim, Sue, Lauren, and Katie Johnson established The KyleCares Foundation in 2018 – a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting open and honest communication about the mental health challenges experienced by teens and young adults in today’s society.

Ed Hurley, CEO of the Hockomock Area YMCA noted, “The Hockomock Area YMCA and the Johnson family have had a long relationship and a deep friendship and we are honored to be partnering with them in this critical work they are doing. The KyleCares Foundation is having an enormous impact on the mental health of teens and young adults in our communities. As an employer of so many teens and young people, and as a provider of so many programs for that demographic, it is critical to enhance our staff’s education and training on this important topic. We are so grateful for the support of the KylesCares foundation and the Johnson family.”

Hurley said the training will take place in the spring.

The Hockomock Area YMCA is the largest employer of teens in their service area. The Y enhances the quality of life of our members and enriches the communities we serve through partnership and collaboration. Our focus is on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, providing programs and services to all regardless of ability to pay.
