U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss secured the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional District on Sept. 1, defeating challenger Jason Poulos in the Sept. 1 state primary.
Auchincloss defeated Poulos by a vote of 36,367 to 13,938. He will face Thomas Stalcup, who ran unopposed for the Republican nomination. Auchincloss represents Massachusetts’ 4th Congressional district, which includes North Attleborough.
Auchincloss’s campaign was contacted by the North Star Reporter for comment on his primary victory, but did not respond by press time.
“While the results of the primary election were far from the progressive change our campaign had hoped for, over 24,000 voters in MA-4 voted for a platform of Medicare-for-All, dismantling our corrupt campaign finance system and ending forever wars,” Poulos said in a statement to the North Star Reporter.
Poulos claimed his campaign was outspent 20-to-1 during the final two weeks of the race and criticized the outside spending.
Despite the loss, Poulos said he was proud of the campaign’s grassroots organization, which he described as a “small army of volunteers” operating without paid staff or campaign consultants.
“We demonstrated that this self-organizing model of volunteers can be viable, and can be improved in future iterations,” Poulos said.
Poulos did not indicate in his statement whether he plans to seek office again, but said his political involvement would continue.
“We will continue to fight because we are true believers,” Poulos said.
