Staff Report

Two house fires reported Saturday morning have resulted in residents being displaced, though no serious injuries were reported.

According to information provided by the North Attleborough Fire Department, at 12:12 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, there was a report of a house fire with the possibility of two residents trapped inside the home at 50 Oakhurst St.

“Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire in the wall, which extended into the attic of the multi-family home,” a statement from the department read. “A second alarm was immediately sounded, bringing in all on-duty North Attleborough firefighters and companies from surrounding towns.”

Two residents were found on the second floor and exited with the assistance of police and fire crews. The fire was under control within 25 minutes and no injuries were reported. The residents are displaced and being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Mutual aid was provided by the Attleboro, Foxboro, Mansfield, Seekonk, and Cumberland, Rhode Island, fire departments. The Mansfield Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene.

While firefighters were responding to the fire on Oakhurst Street, dispatchers received another report at 1:36 a.m. of a smoke alarm at 60 Wendy Drive. Subsequent calls reported a chair on fire in the home’s basement.

Crews from the first fire, including North Attleborough, Attleboro and Foxboro, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a two-story colonial home with heavy smoke visible and a large fire in the basement.

A third alarm was struck, bringing crews from the Wrentham, Norton, Norfolk, Walpole, Plainville, Rehoboth, Franklin, Easton and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, fire departments. The Providence Canteen and Mansfield Emergency Management Agency provided relief for firefighters.

“The fire was under control within 45 minutes. One resident received medical aid on scene but denied medical transportation,” the statement read. “There were no other injuries reported. The residents of this home have been displaced and are being assisted by family.”

Both scenes were cleared around 6 a.m. The two fires are under investigation by the NAFD, but do not appear suspicious, according to the department.
