North firefighter Sam Gutwill graduates from Mass Firefighting Academy

Fire Chief Christopher Coleman has announced that North Attleborough firefighter Sam Gutwill has graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

On Friday, Dec. 12, Gutwill graduated alongside 24 firefighters from the 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program. His class, Class #BW37, was recognized during a graduation ceremony at the Department of Fire Services’ Bridgewater campus.

At the academy, Gutwill received training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, cancer awareness, stress management and self-rescue techniques. He was also trained in life safety, search and rescue,

ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack.

Gutwill previously worked for the Sherborn Fire Department and has his EMT certifications. Upon graduating, Gutwill now has his Firefighter I/II and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations certifications. He will be attending

paramedic school in the near future.

The other graduates of Class #BW37 represented the fire departments of Brewster, Canton, Cohasset, Dennis, East Bridgewater, Fairhaven, Hingham, Medway, Norton, Quincy, Sharon, Somerset, Stoughton, Truro, Wellfleet and Yarmouth.
