A house fire that broke out on Clifton Street the afternoon of Nov. 30 will be ruled accidental and was caused by a candle, according to Fire Chief Christopher Coleman.
The North Attleborough Fire Department received the call for a fire at 46B Clifton St. around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, smoke could be seen coming from the second floor.
Coleman said crews arrived on scene within “two to three minutes” of receiving the call, a response time he credited with containing the fire and preventing further spread from the engulfed bedroom.
“Firefighters got up to the second floor fairly quickly and extinguished the fire,” said Coleman. “It was starting to make its way into the hallway, but they were able to knock it down.”
A ladder truck was employed to reach the roof, and firefighters reached the bedroom via interior stairs.
The second floor sustained smoke and fire damage, and the first floor experienced water damage. No injuries were reported.
Attleboro and Plainville provided mutual aid with an ambulance and fire engine, respectively. Foxboro and Cumberland provided station coverage.
Coleman said North Attleborough officials will soon issue a statement reminding residents about candle safety, especially during the holiday season.
