Community members are invited to attend free Narcan training to learn how to administer this life-saving medication in the event of an opioid-related overdose.
These trainings, organized by the North Attleborough Opioid Task Force and hosted by the SAFE Coalition, will be offered throughout the year at Richards Memorial Library, 118 North Washington St. The schedule is as follows: Monday, Sept. 15, 5 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20, 1 to 2 p.m.
During these trainings, attendees will learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose, learn how to administer Narcan, a life-saving medication that reverses a known or suspected opioid-related overdose, and practice administering the drug. Attendees will also receive two 4 mg-doses of Narcan.
These trainings are open to the public and suitable for all ages. Residents are encouraged to drop in throughout the scheduled hour, as training will be conducted every 20 minutes.
The North Attleborough Health Department and its partner, the Northern Bristol County Public Health Alliance, now offer free Narcan to community members. Those wishing to get free Narcan can stop by the Health Department at Town Hall during business hours.
Please note that an overdose requires immediate medical attention. Please call 911 after administering Narcan. Anyone with questions can contact the Health Department at 508-699-0100 Ext. 2560.
