North Attleboro town officials and residents joined together Saturday, May 24, to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States.

“We remember that the freedoms we cherish were purchased at a tremendous cost,” said Brig. Gen. George ‘Chris’ Hackler during his remarks. “Remember that behind every name etched on a memorial is a story of courage, a potential of love and sacrifice.”

The ceremony, held at Barrows Veterans Memorial Park, featured multiple speakers including state Sen. Paul Feeney, state Rep. Adam Scanlon, and Town Council President Justin Pare.

The Massachusetts Army National Guard Color Guard led the Presentation of Colors, with students from North Attleborough and Bishop Feehan high schools performing the National Anthem, “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and more.

Throughout the event, a static military vehicle display with World War II reenactors were outside of Community School, allowing many to see vehicles and other items up-close.

Shortly after the ceremony, local Boy Scout troops conducted the lowering of the flags and the Massachusetts Army National Guard held a firing battery salute, honoring those who have laid down their lives for this country.
