
Jennifer Stringfellow of Bishop Feehan High School has been named the Attleboro Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Outstanding Teacher of American History for the 2024-2025 school year.
Stringfellow was recognized and presented this prestigious award at the chapter’s March meeting with family, friends, co-workers and administrators in attendance.
This award is given annually to a local grade 6-12 teacher of American history who fosters a spirit of patriotism, has an incisive knowledge of American history and shares it readily with others while securing America’s future through better education and understanding. Stringfellow has consistently exhibited these qualities throughout her 11 years of teaching at Bishop Feehan.
As a curious student influenced by passionate and talented educators, and fascinated with historic events and sites, Stringfellow committed to becoming a history teacher early on. She graduated from Salve Regina University with a bachelor of art history and Bachelor of Science in secondary education and earned a master of art history from Providence College.
As a member of the Social Studies Department, Stringfellow has taught courses in U.S. history, world history, world geography and east Asian studies, and served as a mentor for both students and colleagues. In her role as freshman academy teacher, she introduces students to the mission, expectations and student life of the school. As a mentor to her colleagues, Stringfellow shares teaching techniques, resources, and lesson plans, to ensure effective classroom practices, consistency in subject matter and learning for all students.
Stringfellow uses a variety of innovative and interactive strategies to captivate interest, promote active learning and make topics come alive and relevant for students. As part of her lessons, she shares firsthand accounts and personal photos from historical sites she has visited and discusses real-life, modern-day events to encourage students to see themselves through the eyes of the past and present.
She uses games and activities such as the Oregon Trail when studying the westward expansion and a buying and selling stock activity when discussing the stock market crash as well as engages students in many discussions and individual research projects.
Stringfellow is known by others, as an exceptional and dedicated American History teacher, who is deeply committed to the success and well-being of students. It was noted by a colleague that “her commitment to fostering a love of country and civic engagement in her students is one of her greatest strengths as an educator.”
