Candidate Profile—Kevin McCarthy for Town Council

Please list any experience on other boards, committees, or organizations.

Cultural Council (2023-current), Subcommittee for Public Engagement (2023-current), Assistant Scoutmaster BSA Troop 23, Co-Founder North Attleboro Dog Park

Volunteer: Snow Angels, Our Open Umbrella, Downtown North Attleboro Collaborative (Farmers Market and Block Party), North Attleboro Pride Festival, and Attleboro Angels.

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running for Town Council because I love North Attleborough and want to keep giving back. Over the years, I’ve met so many great people here through volunteering. From leading the charge for the NA Dog Park, to creating North Attleborough’s first coloring book as chair of the Cultural Council, to mentoring young leaders with Boy Scout Troop 23 or shoveling out a senior through the Snow Angels Program — giving back is part of who I am. Now, I’d love the chance to serve in a way that helps the whole community.

If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?

First, I want to keep improving communication, so all residents have easy access to up-to-date information. Second, I’d like to focus on economic growth—attracting new businesses while supporting the ones we already have. And third, I want to make sure we keep moving in the right direction. North Attleborough has made great progress in recent years, and it’s important to have council members who will work together to keep that momentum going.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

I have a strong commitment to volunteerism and supporting our community. Whether it’s shoveling a senior’s driveway, mentoring a Scout in Troop 23, or helping organize local events, I believe even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact. My father instilled in me the importance of giving back, teaching me that strong communities are built by people who look out for one another. That lesson has stuck with me, and I’ve carried it through everything I do—whether it’s volunteering with nonprofits, supporting local businesses, or simply lending a hand when someone needs it.

What are some areas that the town has improved upon and what, in your opinion, remains to be done?

In recent years, our town has seen significant improvements, from business growth to major strides in bringing our water to state compliance. Recreational spaces have expanded with a dog park, hiking trails, upgraded sports fields, and a fantastic new pickleball court. We’re also making great progress toward potentially building a new high school to enhance educational opportunities for our students. Moving forward, I believe we must continue improving communication with residents and businesses. While we’ve made progress, there’s more to do to ensure everyone feels informed and engaged in our community’s future.

Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?

For those who know me, I’m someone who thrives on collaboration. Whether volunteering at the farmers market or Pride Festival, helping to organize the Cultural Council’s summer concert series, or mentoring youth in the Boy Scouts, I love being part of a team. I actively seek opportunities to connect with others and make a positive impact, no matter how big or small. As a Town Councilor, I look forward to working with fellow town leaders to keep improving our community, ensuring it remains a great place to live, work and grow for everyone.
