Candidate Profile: Mark Gould for Town Council

Please list any experience on other boards, committees, or organizations.

I currently serve on the North Attleborough Town Council, where I have worked to increase transparency, promote fiscal responsibility and advocate for common-sense policies that benefit residents. I successfully led efforts to remove the public meeting paywall, created the Audit Committee, and introduced initiatives such as smart rat traps and accessible online laws. Additionally, I have a background in finance and law, serving as a municipal CFO and working on state finance laws. My experience across government, finance and legal sectors provides me with a well-rounded perspective on responsible governance and community-focused leadership.

Why are you running for this position?

I’m running because I believe North Attleborough deserves strong leadership focused on financial stability, innovation and common sense. While our town has a solid foundation, we’re facing aging infrastructure, growing financial obligations, and a need for better transparency in government. I want to ensure we make smart, responsible investments while maintaining fiscal discipline. I’ve consistently fought for accountability, resident engagement and policies that benefit everyone—not just special interests. My goal is to ensure North Attleborough thrives for generations to come by making informed decisions that balance progress with financial responsibility.

If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?

My top priorities include responsible financial management, modernizing town operations and increasing transparency in government. I want to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely, which is why I’ve proposed a Senior Tax Exemption and fought to remove financial barriers to public participation. I also believe in stronger oversight of public assets through a Public Property Committee to ensure buildings and infrastructure are properly maintained. Additionally, I will continue advocating for open debate, meaningful checks and balances, and policies that support seniors, schools, public safety and town services while keeping taxes reasonable for all residents.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

I bring a unique combination of financial expertise, legal knowledge and a commitment to independent thinking. As a CFO and attorney, I understand budgets, contracts, and governance, and I apply that experience to advocate for responsible policies. I focus on facts over political pressure. I’ve introduced initiatives to improve transparency, protect seniors and modernize town government. I listen to all perspectives and fight for accountability, even when it means challenging leadership. My track record of tangible accomplishments proves that I don’t just talk about change—I make it happen.

What are some areas that the town has improved upon, and what remains to be done?

North Attleborough has made great strides in improving public safety, infrastructure, and transparency. The removal of the public meeting paywall and the expansion of online resources have enhanced resident access to information. We’ve also seen investments in parks, roads, and water quality improvements. However, much remains to be done. We need stronger oversight of public property maintenance, better long-term financial planning, and more meaningful checks and balances in town government. Addressing our aging infrastructure, improving public engagement, and ensuring fiscally responsible investments will be key to securing North Attleborough’s future prosperity.

Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?

Absolutely. As a municipal CFO and attorney, collaboration is at the core of what I do. I’ve worked with diverse teams across government, finance, and legal sectors, and I know the importance of constructive debate and consensus-building. On Town Council, I’ve built coalitions to advance common-sense policies, even when faced with political resistance. While I stand firm on principles, I always seek practical solutions that benefit the community. I believe teamwork is about balancing different perspectives, fostering respectful discussion, and focusing on results—not just politics. That’s the leadership North Attleborough needs.
