Why are you running for this position?
The single biggest issue I see facing the town: what taxpayers will do regarding either to build a new high school or fix what they already own. As the first graduating class of our existing school and having toured it both inside and out, little doubt was left that as taxpayers we need to do something…soon! I have worked on dozens of these school projects over the last 30+ years and believe my experience background and knowledge of the processes, stakeholders as well as the costs that are involved could be beneficial to the town at this time.
If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?
Although it is the taxpayers who decide what to do about the high school, my experience and background as a field engineer, surveyor, realtor as well as a licensed construction supervisor is well-suited for this position. Focusing on budgetary issues that perhaps will bring some relief to our already overburdened taxpayer. As a former member of the town’s Finance Committee, I have seen our budget increase by over $25 million in just over 10 years. My focus would be on how costs can be reduced through expenditures befitting too few, while taxpayers continue footing the bill.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
Age and experience. Don’t need to do this, could pay any increased tax burden and have a more worldly view than just a small-town perception. The last HS took three votes in the span of a couple of years. I’ve had some aspect towards successful completion on numerous small and heavy construction projects throughout New England with most of the largest construction management companies over the last few decades. As competent an understanding of finances from a once $74 million budget to the Big Dig’s $20 billion completion costs. I’m a fiscal conservative when it comes to tax dollars.
What are some areas that the town has improved upon, and what remains to be done?
Sidewalks, finally having South Washington paved and the 2023 Revitalization Project coming to completion. North Attleborough needs a bike path, the several miles of the Old Colony Line connect numerous towns north and south, collaboration among environmentalist, historical commissions, engineers, planning boards and budgetary processes are a possible vision for increased quality of life for our residence. That our town remains committed to the standards long set that give our taxpayers a step up over other communities in our commonwealth should be maintained across the budget process. A clean-up on Broadway.
Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?
Indeed, I am a team player! Having a background in civil engineering demands a high degree of collaboration among all stakeholders on any endeavor. Absent that, increases costs. When you love what you’re doing, being a team player usually comes naturally. Everyone in this race has a talent they bring to the arena, whomever succeeds I trust and hope they will have North Attleborough’s taxpayers’ best interest in mind when casting their votes. Played on sports teams until snapping my Achilles. Making fun of my teammate making an 8 on a par 4 is the extent of participatory sports nowadays.
