A resident of the Rustic Pines Estates mobile home in North Attleborough has been hospitalized following a fire.
According to the North Attleborough Fire Department, at 6:42 a.m. on Tuesday, a call from a medical alert company reporting a medical alarm activation from a home at 35 Woodchip Square was received. Several residents also called to report the fire.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered heavy fire originating from the side of a mobile home, the department said in a statement. Firefighters safely entered the home and located a female resident inside the doorway who was escorted out of the house. The resident was transported via ambulance to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for further medical aid. No other injuries were reported.
The fire hydrants in the area are privately maintained and were not initially operational. Several caps were closed shut and unable to be removed at first, delaying the water supply.
Companies quickly stretched several hundred feet of hose line from a nearby hydrant on Plain Street. After establishing a water supply, firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior attack to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby mobile homes before entering the house.
Crews cleared the scene at approximately 11 a.m.
The mobile home sustained significant water, fire, and smoke damage but has been deemed inhabitable. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.
Firefighters from Plainville, Foxboro, Attleboro and Mansfield provided mutual aid at the scene. Providence Canteen and Mansfield Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene to provide rehab. The Mansfield, Norton and Cumberland, Rhode Island fire departments provided station coverage.
