North Attleborough Middle School art teachers Amanda Sylvester and Jonathan Garcia will have a show at the Chuchwood Gallery, “Sea to Summit,” with an opening reception on Saturday, March 9, 7-9 p.m.
The show will feature over 50 works depicting scenes from the Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastline to the mountains of New Hampshire.
Sylvester has taught at NAMS for seven years and Garcia has taught there for two years. Outside of our art education careers at NAMS we are both practicing artists.
“Being a practicing artist informs our teaching practice, as being artists ourselves we can relate better to the perspective of our students’ creating art,” a statement on the show read. “As artists we are constantly reflecting, critiquing and refining our work and process and we teach our students to do the same. It’s important that students see that the creative process isn’t a straight line to perfection but rather a journey with challenges along the way.”
