It’s been quiet around the offices of Already Taxi, but all that will soon change.
On Sept. 15, the business officially reopened after more than a year of closure due to Covid-19. Owner Paul Dellorusso said the drivers are happy to be back, though some moved on to new jobs during the closure. Prior to Covid, the company had 11 vehicles and was available on days, nights, and weekends. Already Taxi has three vehicles for now, but plans are in place to increase this and the process of hiring drivers is underway.
“I’m hoping to find a couple of vehicles to get back up to six vehicles and hire more drivers and hopefully get more business,” said Dellorusso.
When asked what prompted him to reopen, Dellorusso said it was other businesses opening their doors coupled with the feeling of normalcy that has returned.
But it was difficult at first. It takes time to get the customers to return and with drivers working off commission, money was limited. But since word got out that Already was back, Dellorusso said business has picked up.
“So, right now it’s actually been busier than I thought it was going to be, so I’m pretty happy with how things are going so far,” he said. “People seem comfortable just going into these vehicles.”
Drivers for Already Taxi won’t be required to get a Covid vaccination, but will be wearing masks and sanitizing the vehicles during the day.
“We’re doing the best we can with it,” he said.
Already Taxi was started with just one vehicle in 2014. The company services North Attleborough, Attleboro, Mansfield, and Plainville. Dellorusso said the drivers take people on shopping trips, to doctor’s appointments, and offers an airport service with a lot of business coming from TF Green in Warwick, R.I. He said when Covid struck, his business lost a lot of customers, particularly on the airport runs.
“We went from getting like 100 calls a day probably to maybe two or three, literally,” he said. “That’s how bad it was at first.”
