The North Attleborough School Committee will interview three candidates recommended by the Superintendent Search Committee to serve as the new district leader. The interviews will take place at the Woodcock School Administration Building on June 3 starting at 6 p.m. Committee members will hold the interviews in person and the interviews will be accessible on local cable for the public.
Finalist candidates include Duxbury Superintendent John Antonucci who will be interviewed at 6 p.m., Bellingham Superintendent Peter Marano, whose interview will start at 7:10, and Uxbridge Superintendent Frank Tiano who will start at 8:20.
The June 3 interviews follow the work of a 14-member search committee chaired by School Committee Member Kathryn Hobbs, who led the review of 29 application packages and presided over a 15-question interview with six candidates before narrowing down the field to the three finalists.
According to School Committee Chair Ethan Hamilton, over 400 people completed a survey or participated in local focus groups where they were asked to identify their priorities and describe their vision for the next district leader prior to the initial interviews held by the search committee.
He praised the search committee for its work and said, “We are fortunate that we were able to draw a strong pool of candidates and that we have three experienced district leaders eager to come to North Attleborough.”
The next candidate selected will succeed Scott Holcomb who joined the North Attleborough faculty 11 years ago as high school principal and spent the last five as the superintendent.
CANDIDATE PROFILES
John J. Antonucci, Ed.D.
Dr. Antonucci has been a superintendent of schools for 16 years having served in Westwood from 2005-2017 and Duxbury since 2017. Previously he was the assistant superintendent for the Nashoba Regional District and director of finance for the Bedford Public Schools. He brings to the positions a strong background in finance and administration, human services, collective bargaining, communications and supervision mentoring educators in his district.
Dr. Antonucci is a graduate of Tufts University and received an MBA from Boston University and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Northeastern University. He holds a current license as a superintendent issued by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Peter Marano, M.A., CAGS
Peter Marano has been the superintendent of schools in Bellingham for six years. He brings to the superintendency over 20 years of student-focused experience that includes, supervision, building leadership, and guidance. His work in Bellingham includes initial work as a guidance counselor, and he subsequently served as a middle school assistant principal, grades 7-12 director of guidance, and three years as the chief administrator of the high school.
After obtaining an initial degree at Assumption College, Marano continued his education there earning both a Master’s degree and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of New England. He holds several active certifications as an educator and is licensed as a superintendent in Massachusetts.
Frank Tiano, Ed.D.
Dr. Tiano has been an assistant superintendent and superintendent since 2009. He began his career in Nashua, NH where he spent eight years in the elementary classroom prior to becoming an assistant principal. In 2000, he moved on to Chelmsford where he moved from the principalship to the central office. After his promotion from Assistant Superintendent to Superintendent in Chelmsford, he moved to the assistant superintendency of the substantially larger Framingham Public Schools and returned to the superintendency of the Uxbridge Public Schools in 2018.
Over the course of his career, he has overseen both business and operations, and teaching and learning. Dr. Tiano obtained a bachelor’s degree from Bentley College. A Master of Arts in Teaching at Simmons College, and a Doctorate in School Leadership from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
