Candidate Profile: Zachariah Johnson, candidate for Town Council

Why are you running for this position?

I am running for office because I believe I can play a key role in developing a shared vision for the future of North by earning the trust of our residents, getting people to the table, and ensuring that we make informed decisions that take the needs of all residents into consideration.

If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?

The priorities for me at this time are ensuring people make an informed decision as it pertains to the new high school and education plan; enhancing the resources available to school administrators and educators as it pertains to improving special education; responsible economic development that contributes to the quality of life and affordability of all residents; improving access to healthcare, mental health and addiction services; and restoring trust in our town leadership by the members of our community.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

I do not know all the candidates, but I would say that my experience leading highly successful organizations that have consistently achieved industry recognition, as being the best at what we do by working under the premise that people matter and that doing the right thing is never the wrong thing, will lend well to addressing the needs of our community.

What are some areas that the town has improved upon and what, in your opinion, remains to be done?

I believe North has done a great job turning around our financial status and building a strong foundation by which our community can flourish. There is also a strong vision and plan for improving education. I believe we can do better with communication, economic planning and development, and I would like to see more focus on special education and improving quality of life and affordability for our residents.

Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?

I believe one of my greatest strengths, as validated by my success as an active board member with the Little North Attleboro League, a coach for multiple youth sports teams, and as a leader of a highly successful company, is my ability to contribute to, develop and lead high-performing teams. I continually receive feedback that my transparency and the fact that I carry myself with integrity are key to my success as a team player.
