Keep North Attleborough Beautiful that this year’s Great American Cleanup will see a similar turnout to last year’s.

The town-wide cleanup, now in its 11th year, will take place on Saturday, May 4, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., rain or shine. Executive Director Marsha Goldstein believes that the turnout will be very consistent following last year’s total of 550 volunteers.

“We just like to make sure that the majority of the people who register show up.” said Goldstein.

During this event, the town gets divided into eight sections all across North Attleborough. Because there are so many sections, people are able to pick which one they want to work in when they register for the clean-up.

For volunteers, there will be two days in April for them to go to Town Hall and pick up their supplies needed for the event—April 18 and April 25, from 5-7 p.m.

“Along with getting their supplies, this gives us a chance to meet volunteers since there isn’t much time to do so on the day of the cleanup,” Goldstein said.

Over the 11 years it’s been around, the cleanup has removed hundreds of pounds of trash of all kinds from alongside the town roads and nearby wooded areas. Despite this, there remains a litter problem.

“Where there is already litter, people tend to add more to it because it’s already there,” said Goldstein.

Goldstein said she would like people to become more aware of litter.

“I want people to care because it pollutes the environment,” Goldstein said.

To help raise more awareness about the issue, Goldstein suggested that people visit www.recyclesmartMA.com to get more information on what items can be recycled, and which ones cannot.

With a little over three weeks before the event takes place, KNAB is still looking for people to register as they are always looking for more volunteers. To register, visit www.keepNAbeautiful.com. All volunteers will be getting a pizza party once it concludes around noon at North Attleborough High School.
